Flow of Thermal Energy Science Games
6 gamesIn this series of games, your students will learn how objects transfer heat energy. The Flow of Thermal Energy learning objective — based on NGSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research.

Concepts Covered
When two substances of different temperatures make contact, thermal energy flows from the warmer object to the cooler object until their temperatures are the same. Thermal energy always moves in this direction.
The greater the temperature difference between two substances, the faster the energy is transferred, and the faster their temperatures change. As their temperatures get closer together, these rates slow down. Once they’ve reached the same temperature, energy stops flowing altogether.
This process of energy transfer can be helpful or harmful. Engineers try to take advantage of the helpful instances, and minimize the harmful ones. They use thermal insulators to decrease the flow of energy between an object and its surroundings, and thermal conductors to encourage this flow of energy.
