Solve Inequalities Math Games

7 games

In this series of games, your students will learn to solve word problems leading to inequalities. The Solve Inequalities learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 7.EE.B.4.b as written in the common core national math standards.

Scroll down for a preview of this learning objective’s games and the concepts.

Concepts Covered

Calculate using rational numbers. Evaluate the reasonableness of a solution. Plot inequalities on a number line. Write inequalities to model real-life situations and then evaluate. Solve inequalities using the same methods as solving equations, treating the <, >, as an = symbol.

Multiplying or dividing both sides of an inequality by a negative number reverses the order of the comparison it represents. Use order of operations to evaluate expressions.

Image for Equality Explorer - Basics
Equality Explorer - Basics Estimated Duration: 10 minutes Explore what it means for a mathematical statement to be balanced or unbalanced by interacting with objects on a balance. Try to balance circles with squares, apples with oranges, or cats with dogs, and relate the values to a real-world meaning. Note: Students will automatically move through this simulation after 10 minutes of playtime.
Image for Equality Explorer - Variables
Equality Explorer - Variables Estimated Duration: 10 minutes Discover how to maintain equality or inequality by adding and removing integers and variables from a balance. Build an equation or inequality and observe the effects of changing the value of the variable. Note: Students will automatically move through this simulation after 10 minutes of playtime.
Image for Equality Explorer: Basics - Lab
Equality Explorer: Basics - Lab Estimated Duration: 10 minutes Change the values of three different objects and build balanced and unbalanced situations. Note: Students will automatically move through this simulation after 10 minutes of playtime.
Image for Equality Explorer: Two Variables
Equality Explorer: Two Variables Estimated Duration: 10 minutes Build equations and inequalities in two variables. Observe the effects of changing the values of the variables. Note: Students will automatically move through this simulation after 10 minutes of playtime.
Image for Creating And Solving Inequalities
Creating And Solving Inequalities Estimated Duration: 4 minutes In this lesson, students will be able to learn how to create and solve inequalities to represent real-world situations. They will review the symbols for inequalities and how these symbols can represent a range of possible values. Students will practice setting up inequalities based on given constraints, solve them using appropriate mathematical operations, and interpret their solutions in the context of the problem.
Image for Basketball Master
Basketball Master Estimated Duration: 12 minutes Shoot a basketball through the hoop and answer some questions along the way! The game does not have any instructional content, it simply has review questions spread throughout.
Image for Galaxy Escape
Galaxy Escape Estimated Duration: 20 minutes 10 Bright Monsters have been captured in space and they need your help to cross the galaxy jumping between platforms, finding them, and releasing them by correctly answering each question. Each monster that you release and unlock will be available to play with in the next level, in the search for the next monster. In your journey, you’ll be able to find power-ups, like ‘Double points’ and ‘Slow down’, which can be activated by finding gems, and their duration can be extended by correctly answering a question. Unlock and release the 10 different monsters and a spaceship along 10 different levels, while you make the most possible points.
Image for Intergalactic Inequalities
Intergalactic Inequalities Estimated Duration: 30 minutes Commander Dog is on duty when the Alien Invasion strikes! It is up to you to save us by solving ever more challenging inequality equations. Do you have what it takes to survive the Alien Invasion and make it to the greatest SPACE PARTY EVER?!? Let's do this!
