Know Sizes Of Measurement Units Math Games
3 gamesIn this series of games, your students will learn the relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. The Know Sizes Of Measurement Units learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 4.MD.A.1 as written in the common core national math standards.

Concepts Covered
Know relative units within a measurement system: length: meter (m), kilometer (km), centimeter (cm), millimeter (mm); volume: liter (l), milliliter (ml), 1 cubic centimeter of water; mass: gram (g, about the weight of a cc of water), kilogram (kg); time: hour (hr), minute (min), second (sec). Kilometer =1000 meters, hectometer = 100 meters, decameter = 10 meters, decimeter = 1/10 meters, centimeter = 1/100 meters, millimeter = 1/1000 meters.
Kilo = 1000 of any unit. 1 hour = 60 min, 1 min = 60 secs. Show subordinate units in relation to super units. Use benchmarks to reason about the relative size of units. When expressing larger measurements in smaller units within the metric system, use place value knowledge of comparing whole numbers and decimal fractions. Make tables to show smaller units expressed as larger units.
