Comparing Two Fractions Math Games

In this series of games, your students will learn to compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. The Comparing Two Fractions learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 3.NF.A.3.d as written in the common core national math standards.

Concepts Covered

Fractions must refer to the same Whole to be compared. Unit Fractions with the same denominator are the same size. Fractions with the same Unit Fraction but different Numerators can be compared using the value of the numerators. Fractions with the same Unit Fraction but different Numerators can be compared using the value of the numerators.

When referring to the same Whole, the larger the denominator the smaller the unit portions will be. Fractions with the same numerator can be compared by their denominators where the fraction with the smaller denominator is greater.
