The Latest Teacher Features!
July 2021

Greetings Summertime Legends! We hope your summer is fulfilling, rewarding, and maybe even a little relaxing, after a tumultuous year!

We have some brand new updates to Legends of Learning that we are excited to share with you!

¡Español! Our Spanish Versions Are Out Now

Over 700 of our games now have Spanish translations with another 125 more game translations coming soon!

This was, by far, one of the biggest requests from our amazing Teachers. We aren’t going to lie, it’s been a decent amount of work, but we think it’s well worth it! We are overjoyed our curriculum-aligned, Math and Science educational games can now be enjoyed by Spanish speaking students.

Games Are Now Categorized By Reading Level

Did you know that many of Legends of Learning’s amazing employees were former teachers and principals? Our partner success team emphatically understood it was important for teachers to find games that were not just categorized by standard or grade, but that teachers also needed to find games that met specific students’ needs. And hence, they embarked on an epic quest to use sophisticated algorithms, along with some old-fashioned elbow grease, to categorize almost all of our games by reading level. Specifically, Lexile Level ranges were used to help teachers find the perfect game using our search filters!

Awakening – What’s Behind The Door?

Your class might notice a new door in the Awakening base they may encounter after finishing an assignment. What’s behind the door, you ask? Well, we aren’t going to do any spoilers on our end so you’ll just have to find out!

By the way, Teachers can get their own avatar and try out Awakening after an assignment by pressing the “Try” button in the live assignment view.

Then you too can find out what’s behind the door!

Summer is here! And it’s getting hot at Legends of Learning HQ (not to mention the local cicadas are out in force)!

We know your classes may be ending until the fall but we have some summer fun in the sun to show our appreciation for our Legendary Teachers.

And that is why we are bringing you…

Legendary Rewards!

We appreciate all the things you do for your students (and for us)! That’s why we want to reward you for:

  • Writing Reviews
    • When you write game reviews, it not only helps other teachers find the right games for their lessons, but it helps our game developers understand how to improve their games to be more fun, and better at helping your students master topics. So for every game you review, we award 500 points!
  • Referring Colleagues
    • When you believe in our product, referrals are vital to help grow our user base so we can continue making and improving more and more games, aligned with more and more standards. We know it’s not the first thing you are always thinking of as you are using our product, so we want to show our thanks for every invite you provide. When you invite someone and they create an assignment, joined by 3 students or more, you and the person you refer both get 10,000 reward points!
    • Also, any teachers who have already referred someone, who has created an assignment, will retroactively be awarded 10,000 points!
  • Creating Assignments Played by Your Students
    • We know you put in a lot of effort finding the right set of games and the perfect set of assessment questions to engage your classes. We want to show our appreciation for the effort you put into using our platform because we know it isn’t always easy. It takes time to try out each game and make sure it’s the right fit. So for every student who joins an assignment, we award 10 points!

And not only are we giving reward points for each of these actions, but we also award status points!

Redeeming Points

To start, you can redeem your reward points for coins and gems that you can gift to students in your class (or to yourself). Coins and Gems can be used to get Avatar clothing items and dance moves in our Awakening game! You can also redeem points to get a Legends of Learning cape for yourself, a colleague, or a student!  And keep checking back because we will be adding more redeemable rewards in the future!

Try out Legendary Rewards Points and let us know what you think!

New Year… New Games on Legends of Learning! February 2021

Our library of unique, standards-aligned games is constantly growing as we fill in topic areas you have requested and game developers respond to your feedback. Did you know that 500 different game studios around the world work on the Legends of Learning platform?

Speaking of your feedback, we heard you LOUD AND CLEAR: “Don’t make my students start from scratch if they restart a game!”

All new games on our platform will have an “automatic save” feature. If a student logs off before finishing the game, when they resume, they will start at a checkpoint wherever they left off, rather than needing to start over! Moving forward, all new games will offer this feature.

As always, we LOVE your feedback, so please keep it coming!

New In Grades K-2

Legends of Learning now offers science games for K-2 students! We have published 12 new instructional games in 9 topic areas such as Forces and Motion, Ecosystems, and the Sun, Earth, and Solar System. And there are still more to come!

Legends of Learning offers new Kindergarten through 2nd grade science games

New In Grades 3-8

The games in our elementary and middle school suite continue to improve! In the last month, 11 high-quality games have been added as several lower-quality games have been removed. We feature EcoCity, a game addressing the topic Human Impacts on Earth Systems, towards the end of the blog.

Let’s head to the virtual lab! One of our favorite partners, PhET Interactive Simulations, has published 3 new science simulations on Legends of Learning. Most commonly they are found in physical sciences topics, but this time around they included two simulations about Natural Selection!

A simulation from PhET Interactive on Natural Selection, allowing students to visualize a population of rabbits over time.

Completely *NEW* – CAREER TRAINING EDUCATION

Are any of your students interested in hands-on work? How about learning how real jobs work from real companies? We now offer two games on home construction and Water Damage Mitigation, one game on Solar Installation, and 6 games on Culinary Safety and Sanitation. These games are used by real company partners to train their own employees! These games are very well-designed, feature some beautiful artwork, and would be good exercises for middle school students to flex their real-world problem-solving skills!

More games across math and science, grades K-8 will be coming soon!

The Latest Teacher Features!
February 2021

Happy New Year Legends!

We just wanted to pop off a quick note to show you the latest work we have done on our platform. We strive to constantly improve, with the goal of solving real Teacher problems, so you can effortlessly delight your students!

But let’s be real. We couldn’t do it without you. We love nothing more than turning your feedback into usable features! So keep the feedback coming!

And with that, here is the latest:

New and improved Reports for Teachers.

  • Reporting by Standard
    • Shows student performance across all standards and topics in which they have answered a question or played a game (as opposed to showing performance by assignment only).

  • Reporting on Students’ Awakening Progression
    • Using the “Student Driven Tab” on the Standards Performance Report, you can now see your students performance on questions within topics they encountered while playing the Legends of Learning: Awakening game on their own.

Teacher Avatars and Try Assignment!

  • Did you know that after you create an assignment, you can now experience it like a student? And as a bonus, you can create your own Teacher Avatar at the same time! We are excited for this feature and have a lot more plans for the teacher avatar! So stay tuned for more Teacher Feature Product updates in the future to learn more!

Full Redesign of Our Site (w/ Many Usability Improvements)

  • We now have a consistent look and feel across the site and we think it’s a big improvement!
  • Playlist Library and Assigned Playlists have been merged into a single Assignment section. We think this lessens confusion for users!
  • Instead of having a “Playlist Library” you can now create “Draft” assignments.

Deleted Students Recovery

  • You can now recover students you accidentally deleted (without contacting support).

Bulk Assignment Delete

Lesson Plans

  • We have a large assortment of Lesson Plans in Math and Science, to give you activity ideas, along with ways to incorporate our games. This is available as a premium feature.

Awakening Assignments

  • We have made assignments even more fun by incorporating them into our Awakening game.
  • Students can create an avatar.
  • Students access and progress through activities via a game map. This allows students to track their progress through an assignment.
  • Assessments are now in a fun “battle” format!
  • Students can check their answers vs correct answers at the end of each assessment battle.

Improved Teacher Code Functionality

  • Students only have to enter a teacher code the first time they log in (if you are using teacher code method for student access). Once they enter it the first time, it is saved and students never have to enter it again!

Improved Question Quality

  • We have done a lot of work to improve our question quality and layout as they appear in assessments.

New and Improved Reports for Administrators

  • First of all, the admin reports are much faster!
  • Administrators can see a descriptive heat map showing performance on questions within standards and topics by district, school, and class!

Better Text to Speech

  • We have improved our text to speech voices so they are a little less robotic.

Improved Assignment Instructions.

  • We know your students access Legends of Learning in many different ways: From Google Classroom, to teacher code, direct assignment link, Clever, Canvas, etc. So now we provide instructions for all of these access methods when an assignment is created!

Improved Games

  • All new games that are coming onto the platform (including all new K-2 games) save student progress, so there is no need to restart the game if the student needs to stop and start for any reason!
  • We have also spent, and will continue to spend, considerable time fixing and improving load times for all games. We sincerely hope you are starting to see a difference!
