Using Content-Aligned Games to Boost Student Engagement: Penny Tellier Fox

AKA "Silver Beast"
Chicopee High School, MA
High school teacher Penny Tellier Fox, AKA, Silver Beast, has developed an effective teaching strategy to empower her students to explore course topics more deeply and learn from their own first-hand experiences using Legends of Learning. Through this teaching method, Silver Beast aims to pique her students’ interests and to familiarize them with scientific concepts: “I use [Legends of Learning] as an inquiry activity or as a review for my students.”
Since the onset of remote learning, Silver Beast has reimagined the role of homework in her course design. Rather than assigning traditional homework, Silver Beast uses Legends of Learning to provide students with the opportunity to extend learning beyond the classroom and reinforce concepts at home: “I have had students ask me to assign [Legends of Learning] to them as homework because they get bored at home. The students enjoy this way of learning. They find it fun and exciting. They enjoy creating their own character and having some free time as well.”
Silver Beast, we are inspired by how you are addressing your students’ learning needs. Keep up the great work!
