Concepts Covered in Chemical Reactions in Cellular Respiration Games

The reactants in the process of cellular respiration are sugar and oxygen. They react to produce carbon dioxide, water, and energy. The chemical equation is as follows:

C6H12O6 + O2 → CO2 + H2O + energy

Respiration releases chemical energy stored in sugars, making it an exothermic reaction. Organisms use that energy to live. It originally comes from solar energy, which is converted into chemical energy during photosynthesis.

Respiration also has a significant effect on Earth’s atmosphere and oceans because it absorbs oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.
