Convert Rational Numbers to Decimals Math Games

3 games

In this series of games, your students will learn how to convert a rational number to a decimal using long division and will learn that that the decimal form of a rational number terminates in 0s or eventually repeats. The Convert Rational Numbers to Decimals learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 7.NS.A.2.d as written in the common core national math standards.

Concepts Covered

Convert fractions to decimals by dividing the numerator by the denominator. Decimals can either be terminating (the division ends in a 0) or repeating where a digit or group of digits repeat endlessly. Decimals can have an infinite expansion when repeating; hence, having a location on the number line is approximated.

A rational number with a finite decimal expansion is the same as saying that it can be expressed as a fraction whose numerator is a base ten unit. Long division for finite decimals can be modeled with base ten units.
