Tables Of Equivalent Ratios Math Games

4 games

In this series of games, your students will learn how to make tables of equivalent ratios by relating quantities with whole-number measurements, find missing values in the tables, and plot the pairs of values on the coordinate plane. The Tables of Equivalent Ratios learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 6.RP.A.3.a as written in the common core national math standards.

Concepts Covered

Ratios happen when there are two or more quantities related. Ratios can have the same units or different units. The term Ratio can be used for same and different units as well. Ratios can be represented as words. When expressed as x parts to y parts units may be included. Ratios can be expressed using a colon. There is more than one correct way to express a ratio, all ways are interchangeable.

Ratios are expressed as “for each” and “per.” Ratios have associated rates that relate to the unit ratio. The unit rate is a comparison and does not refer to the units. The unit rate shows the relationship to 1. Use tape diagrams for showing ratios with two quantities with the same units. Double Number Lines are used when quantities have different units. Double Number Lines show the equivalent ratio pairs. When finding equivalent ratios you must multiply or divide both terms by the same number. Graph pairs of values are displayed in ratio tables on coordinate axes.

Knights of the Coffee Bar Tables Estimated Duration: 11 minutes In Knights of the Coffee Bar Tables you take the role of Tapioca the cat in her quest to become the best barista in the realm! With the help of her assistant Congo you will learn the nitty-gritty of tape diagrams and double line diagrams to help her run the most successful business ever!
Image for Newton Pool
Newton Pool Estimated Duration: 15 minutes The game consists of hand-crafted levels where the player controls a white ball. The goal of each level is to get the white ball to the end of the level in as few moves as possible, while racking up points by bumping golden balls into obstacles on the way! The game does not have any instructional math content, it simply has math review questions spread throughout.
Image for Ratio Tables
Ratio Tables Estimated Duration: 4 minutes In this lesson, students will explore how to determine missing values in ratio tables by understanding that equivalent ratios can be created by multiplying or dividing both the numerator and the denominator of a fraction by the same number. They will practice this skill by completing ratio tables and ensuring the ratios remain equivalent. Students will also learn to plot values from ratio tables on a graph. They will discover that when they plot these points, they form a straight line that goes through the origin, a key characteristic of ratio tables.
Image for Galaxy Escape
Galaxy Escape Estimated Duration: 20 minutes 10 Bright Monsters have been captured in space and they need your help to cross the galaxy jumping between platforms, finding them, and releasing them by correctly answering each question. Each monster that you release and unlock will be available to play with in the next level, in the search for the next monster. In your journey, you’ll be able to find power-ups, like ‘Double points’ and ‘Slow down’, which can be activated by finding gems, and their duration can be extended by correctly answering a question. Unlock and release the 10 different monsters and a spaceship along 10 different levels, while you make the most possible points.
