Electric and Magnetic Forces Science Games
4 gamesIn this series of games, your students will learn that electric and magnetic forces between a pair of objects do not require that the objects be in contact. Electric and Magnetic Forces learning objective — based on NGSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research.

Concepts Covered
A force is a push or a pull on an object. A force has both a strength and a direction. Motion is the change in the position of an object. A contact force is a force that occurs when objects are in direct contact with each other. A non-contact force is a force that can act on an object over a distance. Examples of non-contact forces are gravity, electric force, and magnetic force.
Electric force is a non-contact force between electrically-charged objects. An electrically-charged object has either a net positive charge or a net negative charge. Objects with the same electric charge will repel each other. Objects with opposite electric charges will attract each other. The strength of the electric force depends on the strength of the electric charge on the objects. The longer the distance between two electrically-charged objects, the weaker the electric force. Static electricity is an imbalance of charges in a material.
Magnetic force is a non-contact force between magnetic objects. A magnetic object has both a north pole and a south pole. Similar magnetic poles will repel each other. Opposite magnetic poles will attract each other. The longer the distance between two magnetic objects, the weaker the magnetic force.
Electrical current transmits energy through moving electric charges. In an electromagnet, the current flowing through a wire produces a temporary magnet.
