Biodiversity and Humans Science Games

Concepts Covered

Organisms of the same species that live in the same place together are a population. A community is all of the populations that live together in the same space. A habitat is the place in which an animal or plant naturally lives. An organism’s habitat provides food, water, shelter, and space. An ecosystem includes all of the living organisms and nonliving components in a shared environment. Scientists have identified and classified many different types of plants and animals.

Populations live in a variety of habitats, depending on their needs. Examples of living resources are plants and animals. Examples of nonliving resources are sunlight, air, water, temperature, and soil. Interdependency means that every organism depends on other organisms to survive. Some microorganisms are beneficial to larger organisms while others are harmful. A microorganism is a very small organism that is too small to see.

The physical characteristics of an environment can change over time. The temperature of an environment can change over time. The availability of resources in an environment can change over time. Some changes to an environment are caused by human activities. Pollution is an example of a change to an environment caused by human activities. When an environment changes, some organisms will survive and reproduce. When an environment changes, some organisms will move to new locations. When an environment changes, some new organisms will move into that environment. When an environment changes, some organisms will die.
